College of the Canyons’ fourth Uniquely Abled Academy (UAA) Cohort graduated Friday, May 19th. This program continues to achieve amazing success in providing hands-on CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine training to high-functioning individuals on the Autistic Spectrum. Similar to our past UAAs, this Fast Track training has 100 percent completers.
On their graduation day, the students also had a CNC-focused job interview session with seven local manufacturing industries. They had stellar interview success showing off their industry credentials and CNC manufactured parts, plus discussing their CNC skills and knowledge. Many of the interviews resulted in follow-on employer meetings and multiple job offers are expected for the graduates. Again, a 100 percent career placement rate is projected to support our local manufacturing workforce needs.
Thanks to an incredible partnership with our host industry, B&B Manufacturing, the collocated Center for Applied Competitive Technologies (CACT) provides NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) industry credentials to all graduates. In addition, our valuable partnerships with America’s Job Center of California (AJCC), Department of Rehabilitation, Jay Nolan Community Services, The Uniquely Abled Project, and SME Tooling U all provide key resources and expertise to ensure this program’s continued success.
